Russia Military Operations
The russian 7th, 8th, 9th & 11th armies under General Brusilov took to the offensive and invaded Eastern Galacia in late August,
1914, capturing Lvov (Lemberg) on September 03, Czernowitz on September 15 and Jaroslau on September 21. Przemysl was surrounded and laid under seige, while Russian forces continued to push to the west. By the end of November, 1914, Russian forces held all of the territory in Galacia, East of the Carpathian mountains. The city of Przemysl finally surrendered on March 22, 1915.
In the spring of 1915, as the Russian troops made ready to attack the Carpathian mountain passes leading to Austria and Hungary,
Austro-hungarian forces launched a major counter offensive. Przemysl was recaptured on June 03 and Lvov on June 22. By the end September, 1915, 75 per cent of Eastern Galacia was again Austro-hungarian territory.
